VoterHQ

Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 1, 2026

1. Introduction

VoterHQ ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website at voterhq.com (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have in connection with that information. We are committed to handling your information with care and transparency.

VoterHQ is a civic reference platform. We do not sell voter data, personal information, or any data derived from user activity.

2. Information We Collect

2a. Information you provide

VoterHQ does not require account creation to use the Service. If you submit an address to look up ballot information or representatives, that address is sent to the Google Civic Information API to retrieve results and is not stored by VoterHQ on our servers beyond the duration of your session.

If you contact us via email or a feedback form, we retain that correspondence to respond to your inquiry.

2b. Information collected automatically

When you visit the Service, our servers and third-party analytics tools may automatically collect:

  • Your IP address and approximate geographic location (city/region level)
  • Browser type, operating system, and device type
  • Pages visited, referring URL, and time spent on pages
  • Timestamps of requests

We use Google Analytics to aggregate this information. Google Analytics data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. We do not use this data to build individual user profiles.

2c. Cookies and local storage

We store a theme preference (light or dark mode) in your browser's local storage. This is a purely functional preference and contains no personal information. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking cookies.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Deliver and improve the Service
  • Respond to your questions or feedback
  • Monitor for errors, abuse, or security issues
  • Understand aggregate usage patterns to prioritize features

We do not use your information for targeted advertising and do not share it with data brokers or marketing platforms.

4. Third-Party Services

The Service relies on the following third-party services to operate:

  • Google Civic Information API — processes address queries to return ballot and representative data. Governed by Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
  • Federal Election Commission (FEC) API — provides public campaign finance data. No personal user data is transmitted.
  • Google Analytics — aggregate usage analytics. Data is processed by Google under their privacy terms. You may opt out via the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
  • Supabase — our database and backend infrastructure provider. Data is stored in the United States.
  • Netlify — our hosting provider. Netlify may log request metadata per their standard practices.

5. Data Retention

Civic data (elected officials, ballot measures, election dates) is retained for as long as it is relevant and accurate. Aggregated analytics data is retained in accordance with Google Analytics' default retention periods.

Correspondence (feedback, support emails) is retained for up to two years unless you request deletion.

6. Your Rights

Because VoterHQ does not require account creation and stores no personal profile data, most privacy rights (access, correction, deletion) are satisfied by the fact that we simply do not hold your personal information. If you have contacted us and wish to have that correspondence deleted, please email us and we will comply within 30 days.

California residents may have additional rights under the CCPA. Because we do not sell personal information, no opt-out of sale is required. For any CCPA inquiries, contact us at the address below.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. Material changes will be noted prominently.
